It's normal Chrysaor - fight with secret may be very annoying without purify. I'll try secret one as soon as i get Assurs Bane.

hmm wondering about aura distance at lvl 1 ...

I think it doesnt have radius, just self aura. Needs soft point in spirit walk to get radius, or use bar's summoner set belt

Well on the brightside now you don't have to waste a point in Wolf companion to get spirit guide. And if you're lucky enough to get spirit guide now you can get the aura on other characters too!

i think you still need a hardpoint to get any skills beyond wolf companion
