in america, 4-20 (April 20th) is national marijuana day where people can smoke in public. I'm guessing he said that because the RW says "Dumpweed" and weed is a universal slang for marijuana.

Oh, I think the "Ruby" Dagger RW should be called "Winter Is Coming" as overused phrase in a currently highly popular show called "Game Of Thrones" (Has porny bits though) and there's countdown and a nice amount of ice damage, along with life steal and there's vampires i think.

I saw people doing it in central park with a bong and everything last year. There were roughly 40 people there doing it.

Thought I'd brainstorm a few suggestions, trying to keep to the classic lore and establishments of mxl/ultimative as much as possible . . . :

Corpsefire's Children : throwing knives? undead or insect reanim?
Ice Dragon's Beard : one-handed axe? ice themed.

Great Geode : maybe a name replacement for mystic shard, considering 'mystic' and 'shard' are sort of ubiquitous for more common materials

Gloam Core : sorceress orb, theme could be lightning, multi-elemental, or mana/magic dmg. could be umo, too
Fireblood Capillary : either a sword or a spear, fire-themed, Cold absorb?
Reziarfg's Obfuscating Mirror : shield, non-class specific.
Entangled Tear of Anu : amulet, probably higher level, rare, defensively themed.
Rakanishu's Spiral : lightning-themed, could be a helm, shield, or ring.
Shenk's Bootstraps : boots, probably summoner-themed. on-death procs?
Malah's Icicle : wand, ice-themed, healing-themed.
Civerb's Mistake : body armor, low defense or def=0, maybe dmg returned, offensively-themed?

Those alternate names could conceivably be other base items, each occupying a similar role (i.e., they're all very similar weapons/shapes). Or, they (or close variants) could be uniques. E.g. new base items: Beryl Wand, Basket Shield. Respective uniques: Lanceolate Spinel, Battersea Floodwall.

I understand Brother Laz found the polearms to be useless, so I decided not to go over those (of course, unused) graphics/potential new base items. I chose not to comment on class-specificity (outside the obvious; orbs, claws...) as well.

Yay, double post. Seriously though, I didn't want to make my previous post any messier, so I thought this might be a rare case of a double being less rude. Again, apologies. So, this is more of a broad suggestion, rather than strictly naming conventions. (to wit, first few things I've done here: absurdly long posts, double posts, making suggestions that probably overstep my bounds, and then just apologizing for all of it). Anyway, content:

So the idea was such that whole tiers would be renamed AND revamped. Considering that uniques are cluttered enough as it is, and this thread (and my previous post) were pretty much dedicated to making them more cluttered, I thought that not only could different tier names be employed, but the tiers could be slightly streamlined.

So: rather than having TU 1-6, SU, SSU, SSSU, and a handful of other secret uniques (SSSSU?), something that looks rather preposterous, the number of tiers for TUs could be halved, and everything could be renamed.

Remove TU tiers 1, 3, and 5, leaving only 2, 4, and 6 as the new 1, 2, and 3, or: normal, exceptional, elite.
I don't mean revert to cLoD alternate base item names for various tiers (itself something that was rather unintuitive), I mean a normal-tier dagger would simply be "Dagger" and an elite-tier dagger would read "Dagger (Elite)"

Gemwords, Jewelwords, Runewords, rares, and honorifics can more than make up the gap in item quality, and by the time you even start to find uniques you'd even use, you're ready for (cMXL) tier 2. Uptier recipes could consequently be more expensive, maybe requiring Meditation Candles or something. I feel that I don't need to argue any further for thinning out the tiers, bloated as they are.

This could be as simple as removing tiers 1/3/5; no rebalancing or reworking for the remaining 2/4/6 other than renaming them 1/2/3 or what have you. This would also encourage players to experiment early on with other kinds of items, and allow for new uniques, even brand new item types, without making everything so confusing and overfull.

Now then, moving on. Sacred tier. Leave it as is. Where before it functioned as a 7th tier, now it would function as the 4th. However, only SUs would actually be "Sacred" uniques. SSUs could be "Celestial" uniques. SSSUs could be "Empyreal" uniques. SSSSUs could be "Secret" uniques (as is), and new Sigma uniques could be "Legendary" unqiues. I understand that Whist and MNX already have many plans for itemization in Sigma, but I only offer these thoughts as a means to clean up uniques and maybe add a certain aesthetic beyond a bunch of numbers or repeating letters detailing the relative strength of tiers.

TL;DR :

Remove item tiers 1/3/5, rename remaining 2/4/6 to 1/2/3 or Normal/Exceptional/Elite.
Rename Sacred Unique 'tiers' (still just one tier, Sacred, but for differently tiered SUs, title them differently).
SU = Sacred Uniques
SSU = Celestial Uniques
SSSU = Empyreal Uniques
SSSSU = Secret Uniques
New Sigma Uniques = Legendary Uniques

P.S. : Just to clarify, white, grey, blue, and yellow Sacred items are always "Sacred." There are no higher tiers. An unidentified Sacred Unique is always "Sacred" , until after ID it happens to be an SSU or an SSSU (etc...), in which case the "Sacred" string reads instead as its matching tier. This is likely impossible or illogical, but the S/S/S/SU naming convention is just so ugly.

P.P.S. : Examples (just to reaaaally clarify):
Superior Warp Blade /... The Warped Blade | Warp Blade
Superior Warp Blade (Exceptional) /... The Warped Blade | Warp Blade (Exceptional)
Superior Warp Blade (Elite) /... The Warped Blade | Warp Blade (Elite)
Superior Warp Blade (Sacred) /... Starhawk | Warp Blade (Sacred)
Dryhten Ealdor | Warp Blade (Celestial)

EDIT : "Empyreal" for SSSUs ... not too catchy. Maybe "Mythic" or "Seraphic" or "Radiant" or something instead.

I won't read all (yet) but it seems like some nice effort there, good job Very Happy

Just look how easy you come up with cool names, it takes me a while to even get a decent one myself Razz

So far I had planned removing three tiers (tiers 2,4 and 6). Removing tier 6 would essentially force players to jump a bit into crafted items (or runewords) before getting into the SU tiers.

As for SU's I had planned to remove one of the three tiers. The less, the easier to balance. And optionally re-add that removed tier in a different form, like, legendary/mythic unique that would have a separate mechanic probably.

But yeah thanks for those names, will be helpful some day, have cookies!

I like that better than what I had suggested.  Laughing  I'd rather see an opened-up early/mid game as opposed to the very initial game, in terms of item variety.

Somehow I didn't think of this before.

If the new base items aren't to become a reality (or even if they are, for that matter), then there are a number of item graphics that are duplicates (I think, not certain they're exactly the same).

Throwing Knife and Flying Knife - one of these could be replaced with the cLoD Warshrike graphic.

And I believe 3 pairs of assassin claws are graphical duplicates. Katar and Wrist Blade, Hatchet Hands and Cestus, and Claws and Blade Talons. cLoD Shadow Killer and cLoD Natalya's Mark could easily replace, say, cestus and blade talons. Assuming new base items aren't added; which, given that there 7 claw types already, very well might not need be to in that area.
